ABOUT GUO PEI
Guo Pei was the first couturier and is the most acclaimed couture artist in China.
For over 30 years, she has remained dedicated to her design philosophy: “Eastern learning as root, Western learning as application,” seamlessly blending Chinese heritage with global couture traditions.
A Childhood Passion
Guo Pei’s fascination with sewing began at age two, when she tried to help her mother thread a needle. As a child, she was deeply moved by the embroidery on her grandmother’s wedding gown. That early encounter sparked a lifelong passion for crafting beauty through fabric and pattern.
The Birth of ‘GUO PEI’ and Rose Studio
After graduating at the top of her class from one of China’s earliest fashion schools, Guo Pei spent a decade designing for a leading ready-to-wear brand in Beijing. She founded her couture atelier, Rose Studio, in 1997, and later established her label, GUO PEI. The Rose Studio Team is Guo Pei’s greatest pride. Almost every artisan—from embroiderers to patternmakers—was personally chosen and trained by her. Together, they have moved beyond classical techniques to develop a new couture language, representing the pinnacle of modern craftsmanship. Rooted in Chinese art and inspired by diverse global cultures, her designs soon stood out for their fusion of traditional craftsmanship, bold silhouettes, and artistic innovation.
Cultural Identity in Creation
Exhibited in over 25 countries, Guo Pei is one of the most frequently invited Chinese artists on the global stage. She often states, “National and ethnic culture flows through us, shapes us, and becomes our truest form of expression. Wherever we go, it speaks for us with clarity, emotion, and depth.”
